On the coasts of the Azores, high production of L. ochroleuca compensates for shortages of L. digitata. This algae is listed by the Portuguese as possibly usable as food (Dos Santos Fernandes De Araujo, 2021, see page 31). In Spain, and more specifically in Galicia, L. ochroleuca is also produced and consumed as food (Tasende and Rodriguez Gonzales, 2003). In the spanish book « Las algas en Galicia. alimentación y otros usos. Plan de ordenación de los recursos pesqueros y marisqueros de Galicia. » published in 1993 Laminaria ochroleuca is specifically described as edible with description of this algae, many recipes, nutritional composition.
